A colored sketch commission for ironcrux ([link]) on FA, who was so amazing to let me do anything with his grey hare character <3

As an artist who is mainly focused on history of Napoleonic wars, I went for Retread from Moscow. A French hare hiding from Russian cossack bear in an abadoned cottage somewhere in woods. Prepared to defend himself with a dragoon carbine he found on his way.

It was unusual to draw animals instead of humans in such theme but I enjoyed it, since animals are much more easier to draw than humans (at least for me) and bring the picture more contrast from physiognomy to actual symbolistic features.

I hope you understand and this will not drive you away from my art. I thought more of a classic fables from children books than furry when I was drawing this.


(Also damn I want snow!)

Aah I see now, you're talking with stereotypes here :D classy indeed, sir!

I'm not familiar with the personality of the hare character, I was given freedom of creativity, so I went for very possible situation with Napoleon's Grande Armée during retreat from Moscow in 1812, because I find the theme interesting and I portray it very often.
But I'm glad you got the symbolism in this after all. It made the picture easier to understand for all c:
