- Attack of the Old Guard - by Rai-che - Attack of the Old Guard - by Rai-che
The Guard was used only in the most dangerous moments of battles. They were the last chance, but never failed. They couldn't fail. They were the best soldiers in whole Grande Armée.
If a guard grenadier went to the battle, he had to win or die. There was no way of seeing them flee or withdraw without order. Guard grenadiers didn't use shooting much, they were tall and strong men, they prefered the bayonet attack. If they shot, they waited untill the enemy came close (about 2 metres) so the shots found their targets easily.
The grenadiers were fearless veterans, dominant power and the iron heart of the army.

A christmas gift for one soldier from my regiment, I was commissioned by my grenadier mate ( full digital with all details + size = $65 in dollars, but I'm cheaper for you kids *wink*see here [link] )

One of the biggest battlefield paintings I've ever done. The original size is A3, so my computer was quite laggy most of the time.
You have NO idea how I'm glad that I did this painting. It was a great challenge, but the final look isn't exactly what I wanted. I still have tons of stuff to learn and practise.
Thanks ~tTtroy for being my critic again.

Yes, I like to draw grenadiers, why do you ask?

"More dreadful looking fellows than Napoleon's guard I had never seen. They had the look of thoroughbred, veteran, disciplined banditti. Depravity, recklessness, and bloodthirstiness were burned into their faces…Black mustachios, gigantic bearskins, and a ferocious expression were their characteristics."

After 20 years of Campagianing, these are the only men daring enough to complain to the Emperor!!
